Lesson 4- Residence design guidelines (Aashiyaana)

Hi..! Well logging in after few days.... was busy with my work but was missing my blog and my readers.Anyways, have something really interesting & good to share with you all. Designing a residence is not only an interesting job as well as its a very challenging job. Not only requirements are considered in fact taste of each person is to be taken care off. Here are few guidelines to make a building  a aashiyaana to live in.

Residential designing involves following factors that must be take care of :

  • Much free & much more personal : Always remember , while designing for a residence we have lots more space to design..to accommodate our skills as well as ..it is more personal space to work on. We have to always take care of the "privacy factors" while giving designs to residence.
  • According to the occupants : Residence consists of different types of rooms  & its occupants. For example kids room , bed room , guest room , family room , living room , dinning space , kitchen etc. and each of the room or space has its own occupants and their own choice and requirements .We should blend our designing skills n creativity in such a manner so as it fulfills both the personal choice and room requirements
  • Kitchen & Dinning close to each other : While planning the rooms and requirements don't forget to keep kitchen and dinning area close to each other or if possible than attached. It makes the home makers very easy to work on and server food . It has its own privacy demands as well. Taking such things into consideration plan the spaces.
  • Bedroom & Bath : Earlier days in India Bathroom/Toilets were located outside homes, but these days time and requirement  have changed. According to the time and desired choices one should place bathroom attached to the bedroom. It fulfills privacy n private requirement of the occupants. But in-between make sure of good and nice placement of bathroom in bedroom to avoid bad smell & wet walls which may effect your bedroom atmosphere .
  • Furniture styling & placement : To get appropriate furniture styling in a residence first try to understand the taste of your client or occupants. Few may like traditional furniture , some may life modern looks , all the occupants have their own choices. Try to accommodate there tastes in a mix match styling. But in-between don't forget your designing theme etc.
  • Economic Consideration : Budget is the most important as well as key to design your desired plans and imagination. Its not important good and brilliant design can only be afforded by high budgets.. remember designs & creative skills don't have any budgets & any limitation...so always try to design your imagination in the given budget of your client.
  • Proper utilization of Space : Matters the most is ... proper utilization of space. There is ample of space to design & create a world for your client. Maximum and creative use of there space will bring the magic home.

Yeh masoom zindgi.. !

Jaane kis ke liye bani , jaane kis ke liye mili
zindgi toh paheli hain , faank faank dheere se chili
khamosh raha thi meri , mil gai woh bandhagi
jaane kis ke liye hai.....yeh masoom zindgi.. !

Khush bhi hue kabhi , toh hue kabhi khud se naraaz
kuch uljaine sulzi kismat ki, hain kuch aaj bhi raaz
kuchal dia dil ki pankudi ko , kaisi thi woh dil lagi
jaane kis ke liye hai..yeh masoom zindgi ... !!

Mitta bhi lo hatho se , lakiro se kaise door jaaoge
kosish karlo jitni bhi, zindgi se na bhaag paaoge
malum hai jitne bhi andhera ho, pass aayegi woh roshni
jaane kis ke liye hai.. yeh masoom zindgi .. !!!

Lesson 3 - Drawings ...Medium to Convey your Design Idea..!!

Drawings/Drafting working on Auto Cad, Max , Google sketch-up or Smart Draw hardly makes any difference , because of all these are connected with the "presentation of your idea's" . They are just a medium to show your idea's to your client. Through these drawings made on any software or manual drawings clients can just visualize your mind and your designs and they helps putting a real picture of your design in front of your client. But before making any drawings or presentations you need to know "each & every technical" aspects of your subject and how to lay down your idea's on paper or software.

Plan : It is  a top view of any area, space, furniture etc. It can present aerial view of an architectural form , furniture placement or complete design idea.  It describes the dimensional arrangements , patterns of contained & surrounding space.

Building Section : It shows wall to wall arrangement of designs, furniture or plan. Work exactly the same as floor plans except they function as selective cross cuts are made vertically through the solid and void of an architectural idea in ore to reveal the pattern of its internal workings.

Building elevation : Results from the same view point as sections, but they describe the forms as intact and complete. Regardless of the depth of their position in an elevation all visible plans appear on the same scale & function to assess the all round massing & silhouette of a designed form. It is basically external view of a building from all the sides.

Working Drawings : These drawings demonstrate how a building/furniture etc. is constructed with detailed dimensions which an Interior Designer conveys a detailed n final proposal to the builder or contractor.
They contain detained dimensions, requirements , space, exact positing, complexity of construction etc. They are rarely colored or rendered rather they remain in line to communicate a total picture of the form , placement, structure & construction of a building design.

Presentation Drawings : They are produced to address those such as clients with the ultimate experience of design proposal. Presentation drawings deals with the space between & surrounding the slice, they are drawings that primary make a graphics, prediction of the visual & spatial impact of a building. Spatial qualities of surface , light , volume & color.

So, it was  small details about 2d drawings which helps a designer to convey his idea's to people. In my next post..... we shall discuss about 3d drawings, perspective views etc.

Till then keep learning..... :) :)

Vastu Tips for "Rock-stars of your life"

Vastu Tips For Children's Room.....

We are always so concerned about our little stars of our life... since their birth till their completion of education ... there career...etc. we always try to give best to our world.. "kids".. why not to spare few moments to learn about "vastu tips"..for  there room...

Its harmless...to study and try... but may be beneficial for your little star.. n can make a difference in their live's. So lets give it a try........what say...

  • The apt direction for constructing children's room is west. Apart from that, west, northwest, northeast and southeast directions can also be used for constructing kids' room. Totally avoid the southwest direction
  • In a kid's room, the bed can be placed in the southwest corner. Place the bed in such a way that your child has his/ her head facing the east or south direction, while sleeping.
  • It is recommended to avoid placing the mirror on the opposite side of the bed.
  • If you want to keep furniture items in a children’s room, keep them a few inches away from the wall. Don't have the furniture attached to the wall, as it obstructs the flow of positive energy.
  • The study desk should be placed in such a manner that the child faces east, north or northeast corner while studying. East is the most appropriate direction, as it paves way for enhanced concentration.
  • Avoid placing a television or computer directly opposite the bed. The television set or the computer monitor, when switched off, reflects the bed, just like a mirror, and is a bad omen.
  • If you must have a mirror and a television in the bedroom, have them either on the left or the right side of the bed.
  • The door to children’s room should not be exactly opposite to the bed. Rather, try placing it an angle from the door.
  • Sharp edges and pointing nooks comprise of something that is better avoided in children's room. Fillet the edges of present furniture.
  • The center of kids' room should always be empty. Try to avoid placing something in there.
  • Wardrobes and cabinets should always be located in south or west direction of the room.
  • Up-lighters, when placed in the southeast corner of children’s room, help promote health and generate positive energy.
  • Sharp lights as well as spot lights should never ever be used in kids' room, as they tend to create mental strain. Better to drain out negative sources from your kid's room.
  • The doors as well as windows of children's room are best designed in the east or north. The windows should be opposite to the door.
  • Colors are the world of children, but  Green color proves the best for kids' room, as it is associated with freshness and peace and increases brain power as well.
  • For academic excellence, students should be facing east while studying.
  • There shouldn't be any opening in front of study table.
So here ...... we come... few points for kid's room... may help them in long run. :) :)

Lesson 2 - Types of Interiors & Principles to design..!

In my previous post we discussed about "designing n decoration" , "designing elements n principle" and now its time to study further about interior designing. Interior Designing is just not the part of any residential or commercial building its much more and wide than that & for each construction requirements  are different and we need to understand requirement of each and every space according to its purpose and people. Lets first categorize different types of interior's who always wait for a designer to give them a atheistic n useful looks. So here they are :

Residential Designing : Under this category comes all "the habitats" of the people around the world. Weather its small, large or medium in size.. it hardly matters. We need to give our creative skills to all the habitats according to its size , requirement of the people living in  & satisfy the designing needs  of each n every room/residence. At times creating designs may be challenging but that brings out the best of a designer.

Commercial Designing : Hmm.. people working in offices also needs good atmosphere, designed rooms , lobbies , work place , office canteen etc. to work in. Perfect designing not only brings out our creativity n satisfaction but it also help people working in such places to give there best  as directly good interiors makes a very positive physiological impact on person's mind and work. Always remember "happy interiors make people happy" . Under this category not only offices exists in fact this train has many other bogies too .. for example restaurants , hotels , shops and showrooms , shopping malls & cinema plex,  private hospitals & clinics , private colleges & institutions etc. :)

Social / Public  Area Construction/Designing : Here come's something for the govt. owned buildings too, after all designing is just not limited to private sectors and residence. Here at times designing with atheistic factors is not a big deal, in fact usage and quality of material brings a challenging floor for the designer to work on in a limited budget and resources. In this category falls govt. hospitals , school , college , institutions , govt.building of law n orders etc. , railway station , airports and many other small ventures like bus stand , public rest rooms & washrooms etc.

So, after summarizing the area's of designing ... you must be thinking "designing has  spread its branches" all over the construction world. But the good news is that may be these branches are different from each other but they belong to the same roots of designing and principles or points to be taken care of while designing.
Here are the few points which should be taken care  of before each and every construction. But not to be mistaken always remember few common points are applied in all types of space designing but there are personal requirement of each and every space which one should never miss.
  • Proper space planning :  First and the most important tool to scratch the card of success  Proper planning of each & every space give first step to your designing. Never waste an inch .. "each n every inch counts". Designing just not comes with atheistic looks but also comes with the proper use and planing  of the space.
  • Proportionate Planning : While planning size and shape of the space matters the most. Try to accommodate suitable size of furniture, accessories, etc. according to the shape and size of rooms and spaces.
  • Spacey & Airy : Suffocated interiors always bring negative waves to the spaces. One should plane the space with mediums of good air circulation and space management. Under used space is a waste and over used space creates mess. Clumsy interiors can only welcome mishaps in your living.
  • Sufficient Lighting : Always keep good openings to welcome natural lights in your interiors. Let sun rays filter in your rooms or interiors. Not only natural light but even proper artificial illumination is also important. Always plan good lighting arrangements for the space. Dull  and low lights creates negative waves in your sweet and very much owned spaces.
  • Atheistic Components : Have you ever thought why we designers are appointed to manage n design a place, simply.. because interiors not only requires usage factor but they are always starving for good looks and creative skills. Collaboration of Atheistic creative looks and usage brings out the best places in this world. Never miss a point or a place to give your touch of creation and never stop imagining for your design world. Always remember "no design is a waste ever".
  • Balanced Designing : Over designing can end up to a blunder of mixed n match components of designing disaster.  Balance designing is very important. Never under design or over design a space with your skills.  Proper mix match of patterns , colors , materials etc. can bring the balanced designs for your clients & for your profession.
  • Budget & Deadline : Hmm m  last but not the least and one more important tool to be taken care of is "clients budget". We cant exceed the given budget but you can off-course complete your work with-in the given budget. Same goes with the deadline..try not to exceed the promised deadline to hand over constructed & designed space to him. Maintain the given deadline by you and maintain the given budget by your client.

This post may help you understand your designing skills better. :) :)
These small tiny things helped me a lot to understand Interior Designing and its magic. But its just a start, there'r  much more wide lessons to learn for designing through experience and study.
Keep Learning..... :) :) :)

Lesson on Interior Designing. Part-1

Here are few lessons for the upcoming Designer or the people interested in Interior Designing field . They may help you find the easy way out to understand and create Designs. Lets start with the most Initial lesson, what is designing and what is decoration.. and how does it converts to  Interior Designing and Decoration.

Design : A Design can be defined as a arrangement of lines, shapes, colors  textures that create a visual image. A perfect design is being created balancing all these things properly for the required area/space.

Decoration : Decoration can be defined as placing the decor accessories, decor items, (curtains, show items, wall hanging, paintings etc.) at the correct place according to the area of the space. We need to take care of size n shape of the decor item  before placing it to the respective place/space.

Interior Designing & Decoration : When we are decided for the particular plane, furniture, colors, floor treatment, ceiling treatment keeping in view requirements of the client, place, purpose and occupants  for the given space/room or habitat/office etc. we'r done with its designing & decoration is like "adding a pinch of salt" to you designs. Perfect placement of decor items and accessories bring the term "Interior Designing & Decoration".

Here comes the Question how to bring perfect Designing in your work. It is very simple, by just understanding the  "Elements of Design".

Elements of Design : These are basically visual components used in creating an object or composition.  Following are the "elements of design".

  • Lines : Line is basic design element. There are two lines of different nature, it provides the visual dimensions of length and width. When lines are combined spaces are enclosed.and forms in shapes are defined.
  • Forms : It is also refereed to as shape area. It is an object having three dimensions like length  width and depth.
  • Shape : It describes the outer dimension of an object.Shape also encloses area and imparts in certain character of the object viewed.
  • Space : It is generally considered to be the area seen between the shapes. It is basically the area you're working for. Using the correct shapes in the spaces can create magic to your designs n creations. Correct utilization of space & playing with the correct shapes brings out the best results.
  • Color & Texture : Color is one of the most powerful elements. It is tremendous expressive qualities  It is "add on beauty" to your design if your selection the appropriate colors for the spaces  or it has the power "to ruin" your design if selection is wired or in-appropriate. Color gives the " complete visual impact" to your design.

Understanding "elements of design" is not just enough. To achieve the perfect design we need to understand "Principles of design". The principles are concept used organize or arrange the structural element of Design  Following are the "Principles of Design "

  • Balance : Balance is the concept of visual equilibrium and related to our physical sense of balance. Balance are of two types : (1) Symmetrical Balance aka Formal Balance & (2) Asymmetrical Balance aka Informal Balance.

  1. Symmetrical Balance can be described as having equal "weight" on equal side of a centrally place fulcrum. When the elements are arranged equally on either side of a central axis, the result i trilateral (3 side) symmetry.

2. Asymmetrical Balance is more complex and difficult of envisage. It involves placement of objects in a way that will allow objects of varying visual weight to balance one another around a fulcrum point.

  • Proportion : Refers to the relative size & scale of the various elements in a design.
  • Rhythm : It can be described as timed movement through space, an easy, connected part along which the eye follows a regular arrangement of motifs.
  • Emphasis : Refers to as point of focus or interruption. It can be achieved by ; Contrast of colors, textures or shape will call attention to a specific point ; contrast of size or scale will as well ; placement in a strategic position will call attention to a particular elements of design.
  • Unity : It is the underlying principle that summarize all of the principles and elements of design. It can be achieved through the effective and consistent use of any of the elements, but pattern. Unity also exists in variety. Unity can also be a matter of concept.

So, here were few important initial points which every up-coming designer or interior designer should take care of to get the desired "interior design n decoration".

Hope this matter has helped you for your initial learning.
Lessons or guidelines for the space coming soon :)

"When Dezin hugs Traditions.... "

INDIA...country of Culture, Religions, Celebrations, Traditions and lots more positive energy giving events. Designing and Indian traditions are very closely inter-related to each other..don't u think so.. lets take a look..

Lets start it with few festivals of India...  for example  Holi.. Festival of colors .. happiness..smiles .. friendship .. new hopes ..colorful dreams... as its said.. "love in air".. during holi its "colors n smiles in the air".. n they are truly achieved by colors n design. Rangoli... designs at our home.. "veranda".. "entrance door".. "balcony".. its all complete collaboration of "design n traditions"..

To make it better...... we can choose upon few designs that can remain forever. ..even after holi.. thinking.. how to get such designs... simply.. take the snap... and enhance the beauty of ur living room with the colors of joy n fun..u had with your family n friends. why do we hesitate to ..frame a picture of "colors ".. in fact you should..try this year... these memories will be a sugar coating on your smile. :)

We share...... most of our pictures..video's on social networking.. but  during this process most of us forget one important place to share pictures with....n that is ...your own habitat, rooms , offices... etc. Why not give them a chance to become brighter and more colorful. We can filter happiness from such moments .. its just takes a click..n clickers to frame it on the walls of most wanted spaces.
Try some hand-prints on a white cloth ..n frame them for your living room or any particular wall which u want to highlight. So... hope this year..your are going to capture some colors for your living room, family room..etc. as it is truly . "dezin hugging traditions".. :) :)

It is said "old is gold".. n few old relations always come with a great combination of happiness smiles & new trends n this can be best seen during Diwal where "Design hugs Traditions".

Most of the Indian homes are re-painted on Diwali.. that's the time to choose correct combination of colors and festive touch. Greet your walls with ... smooth and pleasant color themes. High-light  wall with texture effects.

Color your imaginations not only on walls but also on floors,  doors and windows. You can bring out "the diwali" effect with different types of auspicious stickers, wall hangings , floor sticker prints , floor rangoli, flower designs etc. We not only color or decorate our house, we also buy new electrical appliance etc on this auspicious occasion. Try to make new furniture from the existing one, repaint it, simple change the laminates if it is too old and needs a new look. Convey your happiness to the place where you live. This will bring more positive energy at your "ashiyaana".

Simply add on new Cushion covers to make a change in your present sofa set, change your old curtains, drop your old furniture covers or table cloths, try vivid colors on white base.. or something in contrast ..or may be three color theme can be an option . Its not just you for giving a complete make over to your habitat you need to change everything. Small tiny changes can bring a sort of make over to your place you live in.Try it.........n make it. :)

Soon.... "Design hugs traditions part-2" is coming. :) :P

"Vastu Gyaan... Affordable tips.."

"Vastu" is just not applicable for the directions ... it means much more than that. Directions are always important for it..but at times we can't afford to change the present construction. Lets not think about directions... lets try to understand simple affordable tips.. which may bring a "change in your life without making any major change in your already con-structured homes,offices etc.."

  • Setting television in the bedroom area is not recommended. If you cant change it.. cover the t.v. with a cloth or t.v.cover before going to sleep.
  • Keep the plants and water sport far from your bedroom.
  • Never split bed sheet and bed mattresses.
  • Set your house furniture in the form of circle, square, or as octagon.
  • Keep the corners bright. You can use different type of lamps, lights , show items etc to make the brightness of a corner.
  • It is good to fix an image of bright sun in the southern wall of the living area.
  • Construct your bedroom, where wind must blow from south to west.
  • Your house dinning hall must never get exposed to the entrance door of the house.
  • Setting a mirror in the kitchen room is not recommended.
  • Do not place the mops and brooms in the kitchen. We have lot more spaces to keep them..isn't it..then why to use "space of anaapurna devi" for this.
  • It is good to keep the doors of your toilet and bathroom closed most the time.
  • It is good to set your windows opened towards out face. Let the negative energy flow out.
  • Growing of pricking plants like cactus in your house is not advisable and recommended
  • It is good to place the fish aquarium in the southeast corner in your living area. It doesn't mean a big aquarium, you can place small glass jars/pets with 1 or 2 fishes in it. Your purpose will b fulfilled.
  • It is good to stick a happy family photograph or picture inside your living room. Afterall "smiles n happy faces" changes the mood as well as brings positive energy in your "ashiyaana".
  • Growing of high trees such as Bangan, Thorny, and Pipal trees is not good and recommended
  • Ensure that the lift gate is not set in face of the entry main gate of your house.
  • Building your house rooms in shape of oval, circle, or triangle is strictly not advisable. Why to go for such irregular shapes.. better go for rectangular or square shapes. You will get better usage  design, decor and last but not the least... good complitments as well.
  • Your house should never be in disturbed by any obstructive buildings.
  • Ensure that your house is good with right air circulation and water source.
  • Your latrine seat must be kept facing towards northern south.
  • It is good to sit facing the doorway, while you sit in your office.
  • It is good to set a mountain wallpaper behind you in your office.
  • Never keep a ladder that faces towards west or north, as it makes waste of money.
  • Never wear torn clothing or withered flowers as these will prevent the Goddess Lakshmi entering into the home.
  • A house should not have paintings depicting depressing scenes, i.e. an old woman crying, scenes of war or poverty, etc. Put up pictures of things like a sunrise, an ocean, mountains, flowers or laughing children.
  • Except roses and a few medicinal plants, all thorny plants give rise to tensions in the environment. Plants exuding white sap should also be kept away. Lime, karonda etc. are alright in an orchard but not in residences or on business premises.
  • All doors should open inside so that energy remains inside.
  • The hinges of doors should be noiseless. Grease the hinges periodically.
  • Doors should open towards the right.
  • Beds should not be placed under beams. In case it they are being place, try to change furniture placement .. minor change in furniture placement can bring a difference.
  • There should not be five corners in the ceiling of a room.
  • Leave the rooms open on the north-east side.
  • Avoid three doors in a room.Using curtains can be a solution or keep the door lock.
  • Avoid three mirror in a room.
  • Don't ever keep a "watch" which is not working. (weather its a table watch, wall watch or wrist watch). It is said "waqt band pad jaaye toh zindgi band pad jati hai".
  • There shouldn't be window behind Md's Chair. If it is.. you can cover it with a cloth or say curtain or painting.

"Banawat ke baad Sajawat".... Designing then Decor..

Aha.. was thinking about the people around this world who don’t realize the difference between design n décor. Man…there is a lot of difference between them. What say…. Lets have a talk about it ..n spare few moments for this precious topic…n try to learn the difference between design n décor..
Before we proceed I would like to make something clear.. …wall hanging… wall paintings.. Selecting a designer curtain for ur living room.. Taking out best show items for ur dinning area n bedroom, selecting the best fabrics for ur interiors is not interior designing.  It’s just a part of décor. Décor can’t ever be started before designing. First step to renovate or make ur habitat a good place to live in..to live your dreams of a well designed home is to ..cherish the spaces you have and to make spaces happy with proper usage, design n last be not the least décor.. !

You and your home, office , shop , any space will be more happy If its completely used with atheistic looks as well as when it fulfills the purpose of work and area. Messy places with lots of décor items and other things are never happy and even cant make u feel happy and comfortable. So lets give chance to our spaces to be happy and comfortable as well.
Lets talk about it bit proffessionaly...... say in some technical and designing words...

Interior design can be challenging - it requires knowledge and skill to create a positive living space and design professionals are perfectly positioned to provide advice and assistance. But as well ...it is interesting and exciting to work on. It challenges our creative skills ..tests our imaginations and results are at the best when we blend the perfect combination of our imagination n creation. The creation of a space which has a wonderful energy and is warm, happy and inviting is also a reflection of the personalities of its occupants.

When ..a perfect blend of "banwat  sajawat" aka "design n decor" comes out..we get the best results of the spaces we are working for.
